摘　　要：翻译与国家形象塑造密不可分。政治人物传记通常会涉及国家政治、经济、社会等总的概述,塑造出传记人物所处国家的形象。因此,探究政治人物传记翻译中对国家形象的重构至关重要。本文以理查德·伊文思之作Deng Xiaoping and the Making of Modern China的汉译为例,探究漂流于他国传记文学中的中国国家形象是如何回归本国语境,并实现国家形象重构的。本文发现,伊文思以邓小平成长历程为基本脉络,描绘出20世纪以来不断变化的中国形象,呈现出由混乱弱小向秩序强大的国家形象转变。Deng Xiaoping and the Making of Modern China汉译属自塑型国家形象重构,译者从历史真实性、文学政治性、社会集体想象等因素考量,对Deng Xiaoping and the Making of Modern China中呈现的四个典型历史时期的中国形象进行重构,实现了“自我形象”的再塑。Translation is inextricably linked to the shaping of state image.Biographies of political figures usually involve a general overview of a nation's politics,economy,society and so on,shaping the image of the nation in which the protagonist lives.Therefore,it is crucial to explore the reconstruction of national image in the translation of biographies of political figures.This paper takes the Chinese translation of Richard Evans’work Deng Xiaoping and the Making of Modern China as an example to explore how China's national image,drifting in other countries’biographical literature,returns to the national context and realizes the reconstruction of the national image.The paper finds that Richard Evans takes Deng Xiaoping's growth journey as the basic clue,depicting the changing image of China since the 20th century,showing the transformation of the national image from chaotic and weak to orderly and strong.The Chinese translation of Deng Xiaoping and the Making of Modern China belongs to the self-shaping type of national image reconstruction.Considering the factors of historical authenticity,literary-political nature,and social collective imagination,the translators reconstruct the images of China in the four typical historical periods presented in Deng Xiaoping and the Making of Modern China,realizing the reshaping of the“self-image”.
