Nitrogen exists in various forms in wastewater, which can cause eutrophication of water bodies, therefore, denitrification is an important task in wastewater treatment.Compared with traditional sewage treatment processes, artificial wetlands have unique structures, low construction and operation costs, good sewage treatment effects, and are currently widely used. There are three main denitrification mechanisms in artificial wetlands, namely plant absorption, substrate adsorption, and microbial biotransformation.Based on the current research status, the mechanism and influencing factors of artificial wetland treatment of nitrogen-containing wastewater are analyzed, thus providing useful references for the design optimization of artificial wetlands.Research has shown that artificial wetlands can fully utilize plant absorption, substrate adsorption, and microbial biotransformation, and temperature, dissolved oxygen content, hydraulic retention time, and available carbon sources for microorganisms are important factors affecting denitrification efficiency. In the future,it is necessary to conduct in-depth research on the influencing factors of nitrogen removal in artificial wetlands, identify the optimal operating plan, and further improve the nitrogen removal efficiency of artificial wetlands.
