Scapular snapping syndrome(SSS)is a condition of clicking of the scapula during the movement of the scapular chest wall joint, manifesting as rubbing, rustling and cracking sound under the scapula during shoulder joint movement, accompanying pain.It often occurs in sports-loving young adults. The clicking is caused by the imbalance of muscle strength around the shoulder joint and the incoordination of movement, and is often heard when the shoulder is moved or shrugged.A variety of factors, including bursitis,Luschka's tubercle, chondroostoma, back elastic fibroma, sequelae of scapula and rib fractures can lead to SSS.Without an active treatment of early symptoms, they may aggravate shoulder failure.SSS is not uncommon in clinical practice, but rarely reported in China due to neglection. An early diagnosis and treatment of scapula snapping syndrome contribute to improve the therapeutic outcome and prognosis. The present review summarized the anatomy, etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of scapula snapping syndrome, and forecasted future research prospects.
