个体成长和处所意识:再读《俄亥俄州瓦恩斯堡镇》

摘　　要：《俄亥俄州瓦恩斯堡镇》既被视作一部美国成长小说,也被认为是“反乡村叙事”的代表作,个体成长和小镇地方分别为理解和阐释小说提供了视角。本文认为,个体成长与地方的关系是小说重要的母题,有必要将成长与地方结合起来再读该小说。为此,本文借鉴地理批评的处所意识概念和流动性理论,在剖析小说中地方小镇特点、人物存在状况和主人公成长路径的基础上探讨这一话题。小说讨论转型期美国人在现代开放空间的存在境况,是时代情感结构的出口。Winesburg,Ohiois listed among American novels of development,and is also named as a representative work in “the revolt from the village”.Personal development and the small-town place have offered perspectives for understanding and interpreting the text.This study holds that the connection between personal development and the place in the novel remains to be explored.This article attempts to analyze the nature of the small-town place,the existential conditions of characters,and the route of the protagonist's personal development inWinesburg,Ohioby drawing on mobility theory and the concept of topophrenia in geocriticism.Winesburg,Ohiodiscusses modern existential conditions of Americans in open space and reveals the structure of feeling during the transitional period.
