Based on the data from China General Social Survey between 2010 and 2021,this empirical study examined the impact of migration on assortative mating. The results showed that premarital migration significantly improved the probability of encountering a match with a higher socioeconomic status, key mechanisms for explaining which were the improvement of one's own socioeconomic status and the enhancement of mate selection field. In contrast to post-marital migrants, premarital migrants expanded social networks, providing opportunities to meet potential partners with a higher socioeconomic status.Heterogeneity analysis revealed that, the effect of premarital migration on spouse quality was more pronounced for non-agricultural populations.Compared to non-migrants,this effect was more evident among the lower-middle class. The conclusion suggested that migration and floating might serve as an important pathway to enhance individual marriage matching opportunities.
