摘　　要：《了不起的盖茨比》中的美国梦已从最初的重物质和精神合——异化为物质化的美国梦,正是这丧失了精神内涵的美国梦主导了盖茨比所在的社会和圈子。在物欲横流、惨无人性的社会环境中,富裕后依然执着追求纯真爱情的盖茨比无疑只能遭遇失败。盖茨比的死是美国梦中人性幻灭的必然结果,他仅存的一点人性关辉,在追求爱情中被毫无人性的美国梦击得粉碎。The American Dream in The Great Gatsby has been alienated from the original emphasis on the unity of material and spirit to a materialistic American Dream.It is this American Dream that has lost its spiritual connotation that dominates the society and circle in which Gatsby lives.In a materialistic and inhumane social environment,Gatsby,who still persists in pursuing pure love after becoming rich,will undoubtedly fail.Gatsby’s death is the inevitable result of the disillusionment of humanity in the American Dream.His only remaining humanity was shattered by the inhuman American Dream in the pursuit of love.
