Hypertension is a common cardiovascular disease that can cause damage to multiple target organs, including heart, brain, kidneys, blood vessels and eyes.Acupuncture has shown significant efficacy in reducing target organ damage from hypertension and in protecting heart, brain, kidneys and vascular endothelium. The underlying mechanisms primarily involve the regulation of neuroendocrine function, metabolism, inflammation, and gene expression. To further consolidate current advancements in research on how acupuncture mitigates hypertensive target organ damage, this study reviews literature from CNKI and Pubmed databases, summarizing findings from the perspective of signaling pathways. This review aims to provide theoretical support at the genetic and protein levels for the application of acupuncture in blood pressure reduction and the protection of target organs affected by hypertension.
