现代性与新秩序:狄更斯《董贝父子》中的铁路书写

摘　　要：维多利亚时期出现的铁路成为英国工业化和现代化的重要标志,狄更斯在《董贝父子》中对铁路的四次描写呈现出其对铁路背后现代性与新秩序的复杂思考。通过对狄更斯的创作进行历史化的考察,发现在创作《董贝父子》时,狄更斯对铁路的态度总体比较积极。小说中的铁路在微观层面上重塑了人们的时空感知,给人们带来一种现代性的体验。狄更斯认为某些个人因循守旧,难以应对现代性冲击,便会感到不安与腻烦。但这无法阻挡铁路现代性在英国的推进。在宏观层面上,铁路改变了社会流动性,从而促进新的社会秩序的建立。而铁路与地震意象的密切关联则揭示出狄更斯受当时地质学影响的“灾变论”立场,这种立场最终指向其对新秩序和进步史观的拥护。The railway was an important symbol of British industrialization and modernization in Victorian period.Charles Dickens's four descriptions of the railway in Dombey and Son reveal his complex thinking about the railway.Based on a historical study of Charles Dickens's works,this paper argues that Dickens's attitude towards railways was generally positive when he wrote Dombey and Son.The railway in the novel reconstructs people's perception of time and space at the micro-level and brings a kind of experience of modernity.Charles Dickens believes that some individuals are too old-fashioned to cope with such an onslaught of modernity and feel uneasy and bored.But that has not stopped the advance of railway modernity in Britain.On the macro level,the railway changed the social mobility and established a new social order.The close association of the earthquake imagery with railways reveals Charles Dicken's"Catastrophist"stance,influenced by the geology of the time,which ultimately points to his support for a new order and a progressive view of history.
