摘　　要：1. Introduction The oldest oceanic crust with ages up to 200 Ma, is subducting along the West Pacific Convergent margin. Interestingly, it is right next to a Cenozoic microplate, the Caroline Plate. The Mussau Trench is located at the east end of the Caroline Plate. It is a fossil subduction zone,which stopped in its infant stage.
