As the global energy landscape undergoes transformation, novel standalone energy storage stations emerge as a pivotal technology supporting the extensive integration of renewable energy. The economic viability of these stations becomes a critical factor constraining their development. This article provides a detailed analysis of the initial capital costs, operational and maintenance expenses, and land occupation costs of these new energy storage stations. It develops a revenue model that includes benefits from time-of-use electricity pricing, standby power, and reliability enhancements. The findings suggest that optimizing the configuration and operational strategies of the storage systems can significantly enhance the economic benefits of these stations.Additionally, through case studies, this paper demonstrates that in the spot market’s two-tier bidding model, novel standalone energy storage stations can effectively reduce the start-stop cycles of conventional units, thereby lowering operational costs and enhancing the economic efficiency and reliability of the entire power system. The results offer crucial economic evaluations and decision-making support for the scalable development of energy storage stations, which holds practical significance for promoting the low-carbon transition of energy systems.
