摘 要:与性质形容词类似,不少情态词也具有等级性特征。等级性情态词为情态的经典量化语义解释带来了一系列问题。近年来,随着量级语义学的发展,国际学界有不少学者提出将该理论进一步拓展到情态的研究。该方向上的研究路径大致可分为保守性方法、激进性方法及混合性方法三种。这三种方法均在不同程度上刻画了情态的等级性特征,但仍存在不少未解问题。此外,对于英语以外的其他语言,尤其是汉语,其情态系统的等级性特点有待进一步挖掘,该方向上的探索不仅能够揭示等级性情态在跨语言上的共性和差异,还将进一步推进情态的量级语义学理论的发展。Similar to qualitative adjectives, many modal expressions are also gradable. The gradability of these expressions has presented a series of challenges to the classic quantificational semantic interpretation of modality. In recent years, with the development of scalar semantics, many scholars have proposed to extend this theory to the study of modality. The research paths in this direction can generally be divided into three approaches: the conservative approach, the radical approach, and the hybrid approach. Each of these approaches characterizes the gradability of modality to varying degrees, yet many questions remain unresolved. Furthermore, the gradability of modal expressions in other languages, particularly Chinese, needs further exploration. Such explorations can not only demonstrate the similarities and differences of gradable modality across languages but also contribute to the development of scalar semantics in the realm of modality.
