The national centripetal force of the Dai ethnic group was significantly enhanced during the unification period of the Yuan,Ming, and Qing dynasties. The enhancement of its national centripetal force was the result of the top-down management and governance of the central authority, the bottom-up response and adjustment of the Dai ethnic group to the national governance, and the two-way cohesion between the border area and the inland area. The central authority continuously strengthened the governance and integration process of the border Dai ethnic group through strengthening political management, supplemented by military strikes, promoting economic development, and expanding Confucian education.Under the active governance of the central authority, the Dai chieftains expressed their allegiance and loyalty to the central authority through such actions as tributes and taxation, meritorious and official services, and imitating the etiquette of the central authority. The Dai people expressed their naturalization and identification with China through the use of the Han surnames,a sense of a common origin, and admiration for the culture of the Central Plains.
