语料库驱动的商务英语近义词辨析——以reduce和decrease为例

摘　　要：语料库最明显的功能是为学习者提供真实的语料参考,基于语料库驱动的近义词辨析,能够让学习者更好地掌握词汇使用的实际环境以及语言使用规律。近义词的辨析一直是商务英语教学中的重点和难点,本文以reduce和decrease为例,利用香港理工大学商务英语语料库对其词频、类联接和语义韵进行定量分析和定性分析,以期让学生掌握reduce和decrease在商务语境中的实际运用规律。研究发现,reduce在商务语境中的使用频率高于decrease,但decrease的类联接更为复杂,二者都主要具有中性语义色彩的语义韵,都不具备积极语义色彩的语义韵,但reduce具有一定程度的消极语义色彩的语义韵,而decrease只偶尔附带微弱的消极语义色彩的语义韵。The most obvious function of a corpus is to provide learners with the most authentic corpus reference and corpus.driven synonym distinction can enable learners to grasp the actual environment of vocabulary usage,and the laws of language use.The distinction of synonyms has always been a key and difficult point in business English teaching.This article takes“reduce”and“decrease”as examples and uses the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Business English Corpus to conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of their word frequency,colligation,and semantic prosody,in order to help students grasp the practical application rules of“reduce”and“decrease”in business contexts.The study finds that the frequency of use of“reduce”in business context is higher than that of“decrease”,but the colligation of“decrease”is more complicated.Both of them mainly have neutral semantic prosody,and neither has positive semantic prosody.But“reduce”has negative semantic prosody to a certain extent and“decrease”is only occasionally associated with negative semantic prosody.
