摘 要:佛教作为一种自我标榜平等的思想文化传统,其在中国的发展却似乎未能展现出推进社会平等的实际效用,这一理论与现实间的断裂需要从佛教平等观的独特义涵加以理解。佛教平等观在义理、修行、社会层面既有贯通之处,也有不同侧重,是在佛教基本教理的基础上衍化出的理念。其平等理念或许在中国历史上没有促进社会平权的运动,但在塑造中国人的思维方式上有独到价值,其特有的平等观对于解决当代西方平等思想中的困境与局限也有诸多启发意义。Buddhism,as a cultural and religious tradition that glorifies equality by itself,does not seem to show the actual effect of promoting social equality in its development in China.The fracture between the theory and the reality needs to be understood in terms of the unique meaning of the Buddhist concept on equality.The Buddhist view of equality,which is derived from the basic doctrines of Buddhism,has its connections and different emphases at the levels of argumentation,religious cultivation and social practice.Its idea of equality may not have promoted the movement of social equality in the Chinese history,but has its vital value in shaping the thinking mode of Chinese people.Its unique concept of equality is also of significant enlightenment for solving the difficulties and limitations of contemporary Western ideas of quality.
