Signaling theory is widely utilized in international relations to explain interactions between states, particularly in how actions or policies are used to convey information and intentions to other states. U.S. aid to Jordan dates back to the 1950s. As the Cold War intensified and political instability in the Middle East escalated, the United States gradually increased its assistance to Jordan, maintaining a balance between security and non-security aid. Over time, the scope and content of U.S. aid to Jordan have expanded and deepened, with recent years witnessing an increased emphasis on cooperation. U.S. aid to Jordan functions as a signaling mechanism, ostensibly conveying support for Jordan and a commitment to regional stability. However, the credibility of this signal depends on the consistency of U.S. actions as the sender and how the recipient interprets these actions. Fundamentally, U.S. aid to Jordan represents a projection of U.S. power in the Middle East, aimed at counterbalancing the influence of other major powers in the region.
