摘  要:中西现代性的协商—竞争最早在上海发生并驱动中国小说加快转向现代。清末小说界革命引入西方现代性,其新民救国观念推举小说文体崛起。上海报人小说家巩固了新小说的主导地位,证明了中西现代性协商—竞争作为驱动的适配。民初上海文化进一步催生小说中心场域,报人小说家基于纠新小说过分政治化之弊以及平衡艺术法则与市场法则的需要,选择以“兴味”相号召。这一转变的背后是中西现代性“配比”的调整,民初报人小说家将逐渐壮大的本土现代性、借镜的西方现代性与传统资源潜在的现代性并置实验,创作出富有独特现代性的作品。经五四新文学家以“旧”的名义激烈批判,近代小说的现代性遭遇严重遮蔽,“以西律中”的偏颇给中国现代小说的发展带来巨大伤害。晚清至五四小说现代性驱动的变化及其结果,对当代小说发展具有多重启示。Shanghai first witnesses the negotiation and competition of Chinese and Western modernity driving Chinese novels to accelerate their transition to modernity.The“Revolution in the Fiction World”in the late Qing Dynasty introduced Western modernity whose concept of saving the country by the new people leads to the rise of the novel.In the early Republic of China,Shanghai culture further gave birth to the central field of novels.Newspaper-novel writers propose novel-writing for“interest”so as to correct the excessive politicization of“new novels”and balance“artistic rules”and“market rules”.This transformation indicates an adjustment of the balance between Chinese and Western modernity.Newspaper novelists in the early Republic of China experiments in their novel writing by mixing and adjusting the gradually growing local modernity,borrowed Western modernity,and the potential modernity of traditional resources,thus creating works rich in unique modernity.The changes and results driven by modernity in novels from the late Qing Dynasty to the May Fourth Movement have multiple implications for the development of contemporary novel writing.
