旧、新《唐书》所载韩愈驱鳄鱼事之由来——兼评韩愈《鳄鱼文》

摘　　要：旧、新《唐书》皆载韩愈于潮州驱逐鳄鱼,事涉神怪,有学者讥评韩愈“弄虚作假、欺世盗名”。其实韩愈并无祭祀或驱鳄之事,乃旧、新《唐书》作者据神怪小说《宣室志》所载韩愈逸事伪造。加之韩愈本人曾作游戏文字《鳄鱼文》,人多误以此文为真的祭文或檄文,导致了种种误解。HAN Yu(768-824),a well-known litterateur,drove away crocodiles in Chaozhou,which was recorded both in Old History of Tang Dynasty and New Old History of Tang Dynasty.The driving tinged with supernatural elements,leading some scholars to criticize the litterateur for fabricating stories and deceiving the world.In reality,he did not engage in any sacrificial rituals or repelling crocodiles.These accounts were fabricated by the authors of Old History of Tang Dynasty and New History of Tang Dynasty based on anecdotes from Xuanshi Zhi(Records of Xuanshi),which is a collection of legendary novels from the Tang Dynasty.Additionally,HAN himself once wrote a playful piece titled On Crocodiles,which many mistakenly took to be a genuine sacrificial text or proclamation.Consequently,the mistake gave rise to various misunderstandings.
