“辛”字本义考  

A Textual Research on the Original Meaning of“Xin”

摘　　要：根据因形求义的原则,从字形出发,分析“辛”及“童”“妾”“辠”“辜”“辟”等以“辛”为意符的部分汉字,可知“辛”取象于用刑之具,表示刑刀。根据词义派生的源流关系,结合隐喻、转喻理论解释“辛”义的发展,可证其本义为“刑刀”。《说文解字》以五行之说释“辛”,不妥。此外,以“奴隶”“梓树”为“辛”本义,也有失偏颇。According to the principle of Seeking Meaning from Forms,the original meaning can be obtained by analyzing“Xin”and some Chinese characters with“Xin”as the meaning symbol.Based on the origin relationship derived from the meaning of words,combined with the theory of metaphor and metonymy,the development of the meaning of“Xin”can be explained,and its original meaning can be proven to be“Xing Dao”.“Shuo Wen Jie Zi”explains“Xin”in terms of five elements,which is inappropriate.In addition,taking“slave”and“catalpa tree”as the original meaning of“Xin”is biased.
