During the Japanese occupation period,Beiping parks manifested dual attributes of"colonialism"and"everydayness".On the one hand, the management and operation of parks were controlled by the Japanese puppet regime, which exploited the public and quotidian nature of parks to conduct political rituals and ceremonies for power demonstrations, thereby constructing its legitimacy.Through organizing exhibitions, competitions, concerts and other activities, the regime transformed parks into"colonial spaces"for"appeasement and indoctrination"of the populace, serving Japan's propaganda warfare and colonial rule in occupied areas. On the other hand, parks maintained their functions as spaces for citizens'daily leisure, entertainment, and artistic activities. While engaging in everyday life, citizens also demonstrated aversion to the invading forces.Park administrators and visitors manifested resistance against the occupiers through forms of"hidden resistance".
