媒介美学视角下亨利·詹姆斯画意小说解析

摘　　要：19世纪文化上出现了视觉转向,画意小说进入了高峰期。詹姆斯作为画意小说的实践者,在小说叙事中借助多种视觉媒介,使文本叙事呈现出具有画面感的视觉召唤效果。从媒介美学的角度研究詹姆斯的画意小说,旨在向读者呈现作家文本叙事的媒介化形式,揭示媒介间的共性,分析媒介化过程背后的美学思想。研究发现,詹姆斯画意小说既涉及传统视觉艺术媒介,也涉及新兴视觉技术媒介,这些媒介的介入达到了视觉召唤效果,有利于小说人物塑造,情节推动,主题升华,意义空间隐喻图式的建构,小说中各种视觉媒介的介入形式基于“格调、感识力、印象”三要素设计使用,反映了詹姆斯经验主义的美学思想。Along with the culture's visual turn in the nineteenth century,fiction witnessed its pictorial peak.As a pictorialist,James experimented with various involvements of visual media in narration,attempting to create a kind of picture-like visuality.An analysis of James's pictorialism within the framework of media aesthetics is to display to the readers the possible forms of mediations in verbal narratives and,furthermore,to disclose the intermedial commonality.Further exploration of the writer's aesthetic ideal embedded in the attempts of mediation is also necessary.The research suggests that there is involvement of both traditional visual arts and new visual technologies in James's pictorialism,with which visualized narration is realized,and that the visual media's involvement is aimed to promote characterization,plot progress,thematic elevation,and more importantly,the formation of a metaphoric pattern of meaning space.Meanwhile,it is found that the various forms of involvement of visual media in the verbal narratives are designed and used basically with the consideration of three key elements,namely,tone,sensibility and impression,which actually reflects James's empiricism.
