Goiter is a common clinical disease, and the incidence is on the rise. The study of related animal models and therapeutic drugs is the focus of research on goiter in the future.Based on the clinical disease-syndrome characteristics of goiter and according to the literature and clinical diagnostic criteria, this paper analyzed and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the existing animal models of goiter and the matching degree with clinical symptoms.According to the statistical results, the majority of the existing animal models of goiter are established based on the etiology in western medicine with single types, which are highly consistent with the symptoms of western medicine. There is a lack of an integrated set of modeling methods that can fully imitate the disease-syndrome characteristics of goiter in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).Therefore,it is critical to improve the animal models for goiter which can fully reflect the syndrome characteristics of TCM and standardize the assessment criteria in the study of goiter.
