摘　　要：李约瑟早年从事生物化学研究,后学术方向转变为科技史,编撰巨著《中国科学技术史》。1943年,他受英国政府公派援华首次来到中国,依托中英科学合作馆前往各地访问参观,体验中国人生活,考察中国科学技术现状,搜集中国科技史材料,与中国学者进行深入交流探讨,结识重要合作者黄兴宗、王铃等。李约瑟首次中国之行为撰写《中国科学技术史》打下了坚实的学术基础,决定了他后半生的学术事业。Joseph Needham,initially engaged in biochemistry research,shifted his academic focus to the history of science and technology,and eventually compiled the monumental work Science and Civilisation in China.In 1943,he visited China for the first time on an official mission sent by the British government to assist China.During this visit,he toured various locations with the support of the Sino-British Cooperation Office,experienced the life of Chinese people,examined the state of Chinese science and technology,gathered materials for the history of Chinese science and technology,and engaged in deep exchanges with Chinese scholars.He also made the acquaintance of important collaborators such as Huang Xingzong and Wang Ling.This visit laid a solid academic foundation for the writing of Science and Civilisation in China,which shaped the direction of his academic career in his later life.
