英语成语汉译语境构建认知过程研究

摘  要:长期以来,成语翻译对译者的认知加工过程构成了很大的挑战。译者往往需要根据原文话语设想语境,并考虑语言内或者语言外因素对其译文的制约作用,但在翻译界很少运用实证研究方法来探讨译者如何作出语境假设,考虑哪些语用因素对译文话语产生的影响。本论文基于实验组和控制组42位被试在“眼动—击键”实验后的问卷调查及现场回访录音转写数据,从语用翻译教学理论视角,对硕士生译者在英语成语与英语非成语汉译过程中作出的语境假设情型、汉语译文选择背后的心理动机的认知过程进行实证研究。数据分析发现:在英语成语或者英语非成语汉译时,就被试的语境假设构建情型和及其使用频次而言,实验组和控制组没有呈现显著差异;被试考虑语用因素的Mann-Whitney U检验显示两组被试没有存在统计学方面的显著差异。研究结果验证了我们提出的理论假设,对翻译教学和译员培训具有启示意义。Idiom translation poses a major challenge to the translator's cognitive processing for ages.The translator tends to make contextual assumptions according to source utterance,and consider how intra-linguistic or extra-linguistic factors constrain their target linguistic choices.However,little is approached using empiricalresearch methods about how onemakes contextual assumptions and what pragmatic factors he or she considers will influence his or her dynamic target utterance production process.Based on questionnaires of 42 subjects in the experimental group and the control group after the eye-tracking and Translog experiment as well as the transcription data of their on-site interview recordings,this paper intends,from the perspective of pragmatics-based translation teaching studies,to make an empirical pragmatic study of MTI postgraduates’contextual assumptions-making and motivations behind their target linguistic choices.Data analyses demonstrated that there were no significant differences in contextual assumption construction types and their frequencies.The Mann-Whitney U test manifested that nearly all z values were>.05,showing that there were no statistically significant differences between experimental group and control group.The experimental results have verified our theoretical hypothesis.This research is expected to have some implications for translation teaching and translator training.
