During the Qing Dynasty’s 276-year reign,Qing court translators served as crucial witnesses to historical events. However, scholarly attention to their collective identity has been notably sparse.Guided by Bourdieu's“Capital Theory",this study meticulously examines the cultural, economic, and social capital of Qing court translators, thereby elucidating their group identity. The investigation reveals a dualistic image:On one hand, they were esteemed by the court, proficient in literary and military arts, enjoying high ranks and considerable wealth, with extensive social networks.Conversely, they were constrained and ensnared by capital forces. This article endeavors to establish a novel discourse framework and interpretive domain to unravel the intricate interplay between translator identitics and the notion of“capital”,offering insights into the historiography of translator images.
