Literature and Foreign Language Education in Chinese Higher Education Institutes

摘  要:在世界人文学科日渐式微、中国更强调外语教育社会价值的背景下,外语教育还需要文学吗?本文从剖析文学与外语教育的关系出发,探讨新时代中国高校外语教育中文学教育的使命及其改革路径。本文认为,文学是外语教育的核心内容,是实现外语教育目标的有效支撑;新时代中国高校外语教育中的文学教育被赋予了新使命,即培养学生的“文学能力”和“文学应用能力”,以服务国际传播能力建设和人工智能时代的需要;新时代高校外语教育应推动文学教育改革,以文学能力和文学应用能力培养为目标导向,重新设计课程体系及内容、教学模式和方法,确保文学教育目标的达成。Against the backdrop of the gradual decline of humanities in the world and China's increasing emphasis on the social value of foreign language education(FLE), is literature still part of such education? This study analyzes the relationship between literature and FLE and explores the mission of the former and its path of reform in the new era. We argue that literature is an inseparable part of FLE and an effective support for achieving its goals. In the new era,literature education in Chinese universities is endowed with a new mission, that is, cultivating students' “literary competence” and “applied literary competence” so as to serve the building of international communication capacity and the demands of the AI era. Additionally, such education should promote literary education reform, with the goal of cultivating literary and applied literary competences. Finally, the curriculum system, teaching content, teaching modes, and methods should be redesigned to ensure the achievement of the goals of literature education.
