摘　　要：ESG建设已经成为银行业发展的必然趋势,也是银行业实现可持续发展的重要途径。选取2009—2022年我国38家上市商业银行的季度数据为样本,分析监管处罚对商业银行ESG表现的影响。结果表明,监管处罚抑制了商业银行ESG表现。机制检验结果表明,监管处罚通过成本和收益渠道降低商业银行ESG表现。异质性检验结果表明,监管处罚对商业银行ESG表现的抑制作用在非国有银行、中小型银行和信息不对称低的银行中更显著。基于研究结论,从监管机构与银行ESG协同发力、加强银行内控系统建设、针对不同类型的银行实施差异化ESG建设三方面提出相关政策建议。ESG construction has become an inevitable trend in the development of the banking industry and an important way for the banking industry to achieve sustainable development.This article uses quarterly data from 38 listed banks in China from 2009 to 2022 as a sample to study the impact of regulatory penalties on the ESG performance of banks.The research results indicate that regulatory penalties have suppressed the ESG performance of banks.The mechanism test results indicate that regulatory penalties reduce the ESG performance of banks through cost and benefit channels.The heterogeneity test results indicate that the inhibitory effect of regulatory penalties on bank ESG is stronger in non-state-owned banks,small and medium-sized banks,and those with low information asymmetry.Based on the research findings,this article proposes relevant policy recommendations for regulatory agencies and banks to collaborate on ESG,strengthen the construction of internal control systems in banks,and implement differentiated ESG construction for different types of banks.
