The ornamental gourd were treated with naphthalene acetic acid(NAA)at four concentrations(1,10,50 and 100 mg/L)for 5 min and distilled water for the control group(CK).The effects of exogenous growth hormone NAA at different concentrations on the growth and physiological characteristics of ornamental gourd seedlings were investigated. The results showed that 10 mg/L NAA solution had the best effect on root and leaf area growth;50 mg/L NAA solution had the strongest effect on stem thickness and plant height, and the highest peroxidase(POD)and catalase(CAT)activities, which were significantly different from those of CK group;the treatment concentration also significantly increased the chlorophyll content of leaves of ornamental cucurbits. The difference of malondialdehyde(MDA)content in each treatment group was not significant compared with the CK group. In conclusion, the optimum NAA concentration for root soaking of ornamental gourd seedlings ranged from 10 to 50 mg/L,and the growth of ornamental gourd seedlings was inhibited at a treatment concentration of 100 mg/L.
