摘 要:Coccolithophores are a kind of marine unicellular calcifying algae. They serve as a biological pump which converts CO_(2)to particulate organic carbon(POC)through photosynthesis. On the other hand, coccolithophores can produce calcite scales around a cell through calcification. The produced calcareous scales or particulate inorganic carbon(PIC)can be buried in marine sediments, known as coccoliths. The molar ratio of PIC and POC(PIC:POC)produced by coccolithophores can determine whether the net effect of their growth is an oceanic CO_(2)sink or source[1].The physiological processes of coccolithophores can significantly affect seawater carbonate chemistry and regional sea-air CO_(2)exchange[2].Coccolithophores contribute to more than 50%of the marine biogenic PIC productivity and nearly half of the calcite inventory in global surface sediments, which can influence the oceanic sink of atmospheric CO_(2)by reducing the ocean CO_(2)buffering capacity[3].Therefore,evaluating the relationship between the dual-carbon pumps associated with coccolithophores and environmental changes is important, because coccolithophores play a crucial role in the ocean carbon biogeochemical cycle that works in Earth’s climate change.
