As a canal city that formed and flourished because of the canal, the morphology of the canal settlements in Tongzhou has its own uniqueness. From three levels of Tongzhou urban, township and rural settlements,we make a comparative analysis of the historical and current characteristics of settlements to find the spatial distribution law of the canal settlements in Tongzhou by GIS kernel density tool. This study suggests that the morphology of Tongzhou Canal settlements is basically developed on the original basis, and many settlements retain the river texture of the old canal. The retention degree of the settlement texture is negatively correlated with the urbanization construction. With Tongzhou urban area,Majuqiao town and Taihu town as the core, the settlements with lost texture spread outwards. The spatial distribution of settlements has certain characteristics along the river. The more irregular the shape of the settlement is,the more the orientation of the building deviates from south, the closer it was to the river in the future construction, attention should be paid to the preservation of valuable settlement texture, and construction should be carried out on the preservation of settlement texture as much as possible.
