On 11 March 2011,the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred in Japan. The magnitude 9 earthquake of the Richter Scale triggered a huge tsunami and nuclear disaster. This article attempts to reflect on the memory of disaster from“pilgrimage”and“narrative.”How to recollect the memory of disaster?By pilgrimage,I do mean pilgrimages in the religious sense, but a practice to revive forgotten memories. While we visit disaster affected areas to document the earthquake and recovery,it is important not only to look at the memory installations, but also to examine the culture and history of those places. However,it is not possible to combat forgetfulness by visiting“memory installations”alone, but by discovering the“narratives”that have been forgotten. How to pass on the memory of the disaster? In the case of Fukushima,we should not just read the big story of the victimizers, but listen to the small narratives of victims.
