Based on the transitivity system of ecolinguistics, this paper conducts a comparative analysis of the animal discourse in China’s National Parks:The Land of One and All and Our Great National Parks in the US.Significant differences in animal representation are found in documentaries of the two countries. After a comparison of four dimensions—animals in their natural state, animals as conservation targets, anthropomorphized animals, and animals as perpetrator/victim roles—differences in focus on biodiversity conservation and ecosystem sustainability are identified.Chinese documentaries tend to anthropomorphize animals, emphasizing action-based and psychological processes. In contrast,American documentaries showcase animals’natural states and independent personalities through objective recording and scientific exploration, examining animal-environment interactions via relational processes. The differences reflect the Chinese emphasis on ecological values of harmonious coexistence and the American focus on scientific inquiry.
