With the successive outbreaks of respiratory infectious diseases such as COVID-19,the transmission of viruses among individuals in university dormitories has become a focal point of concern. To understand students'ventilation habits in dormitories during winter and their subjective perceptions of the dormitory environment, this study conducted surveys and interviews with students at a university in Shanghai, followed by statistical analysis. The Chi-square analysis revealed a significant relationship between students'satisfaction with the dormitory environment and their ventilation strategies. The results showed that 72.6%of students adopted window ventilation.Further analysis of ventilation behavior and the frequency of colds among respondents indicated a significant correlation between natural ventilation and illness.Students who remained in poorly ventilated environments for extended periods were more likely to catch colds.
