Cosmopolitanism and memory are important perspectives for exploring the themes of Omeros,a long narrative poem based on Derek Walcott's identity, experiences, and thoughts.Walcott not only pays attention to the“amnesia”in the Caribbean, but also reveals, through decoloniality, that the colonizers'plundering of resources and massacres, the hegemony of the colonizers'interpretation of memory, and the colonial people's blind worship of modernity are causes of the Caribbean people's amnesia. In order to revive faded memories,Walcott uses the literary form of homecoming through dreams to represent the Back-to-Africa Movement, and proposes three paths to revisit the past,i.e.,dialogue with survivors, immersive arts, and religions.Ultimately,he regards memory as a bond and explores the possibility of different ethnic groups sharing similar memories in order to realize the open and inclusive cosmopolitan ideal from the perspectives of ethics and morality as well as culture and the arts.
