The five newly discovered letters from Wang Guowei to Hakubund ō serve to restore Wang Guowei's previously unknown calligraphy and painting history, alongside his academic life. The four letters to Yutani Tatsu were written from 1913 to 1914 and chiefly concern the details of how Wang Guowei helped Luo Zhenyu to negotiate with Hakubund ō,how he sold the rubbings of the Stele of Huangfu Dan and Stele of the Huadu Monastery to Onishi Miyama, how he asked Ueno Richi for the sale price of Wu Zhen's Scroll of Bamboo and Stone and the details of his daily life with Yutani Tatsu.Shortly after returning to Shanghai in 1916,Wang Guowei's experience of negotiating with Hakubund ō provided him with experience in selling paintings in Shanghai. After the death of Wang Guowei,Harada Taikan and his son presided over the fac-simile reproduction of Calligraphy Works by Wang Guowei, which is testimony to their deep friendship.
