摘 要:The General History of Byzantium,a monumental four-volume work authored collaboratively by Chinese scholars, represents a milestone in the development of Byzantine studies in China. This achievement is rooted in the field's evolution as a Marxist-influenced branch of world history. The work's comprehensive structure and thematic focus reflect a deliberate effort to challenge Eurocentrism and to present Byzantium through a global historical lens.Key contributions include its systematic approach to Byzantine history, its exploration of thematic studies, and its innovative intellectual framework. In addition, limitations regarding sources and theoretical diversity highlight areas for improvement.Future directions for Byzantine studies in China include broadening interdisciplinary collaboration, conducting cross-century thematic research, expanding primary source translations, and strengthening international academic dialogue to understand Byzantium in the global context.
