This study aims to investigate the underlying factors contributing to the differential evolution of volunteer motivation among college students under the credit management mechanism, based on the analytical framework of the Self-Determination Theory,a thematic analysis was conducted on tracking interview data. The findings reveal a dynamic causal mechanism that links credit management to volunteer motivation, following the sequence of“incentive mechanism-basic psychological needs-volunteer motivation-individual response”.The satisfaction of basic psychological needs promotes the internalization of volunteer motivation among volunteers.Conversely,it will hinder the internalization of volunteer motivation.Furthermore, the level of internalization in volunteer motivation directly influences the authenticity of behavior and the positive emotional experiences of volunteers.Additionally, the mental set and cognitive evaluations of individuals with ambition influence the dynamic causal mechanism mentioned above.Notably, individual responses have both immediate and delayed feedback effects on cognitive evaluations and mental set, respectively.Mental set influences the tendency of cognitive evaluations ofvolunteers.
