In the digital age,the key to the transformation of online collective behavior into irrationality lies in the fabrication of a series of"illusions".This fabrication permeates the entire process of irrational online collective behavior, serving both as its byproduct and as a catalyst for the generation of such behaviour.Specifically, the generative logic of irrational online collective behaviour manifests as follows:against the backdrop of intertwined preexisting transitional issues and pandemic-induced incremental challenges, people develop heightened sensitivity to interest disparities, reliance on non-institutionalized participation modes, anxiety over atomized existence, and confusion about mainstream value judgments, under the technologically driven mechanisms of physical disembodiment vs.phenomenological embodiment, decentralization vs.re-centralization,individualization vs.tribalism, and instantaneous technology vs.lagging consensus,as a result, four core illusions that are conductive illusion of vulnerability, compensatory illusion of direct democracy, tribalized illusion of community belonging, and righteous illusion of moral critique emerge and collectively culminate in irrational online collective behavior.
