As a prominent contemporary American writer,Joyce Carol Oates’s literary creations consistently center on the core theme of“the Other”of the underprivileged.Describing two typical groups of impoverished individuals trapped by class barriers and immigrants caught in cultural division, her works construct a profound literary narrative system.Rooted in her personal experiences and social observations,Oates employs a stark narrative style to depict the living conditions of the underprivileged, systematically deconstructing the mechanisms behind their tragic conditions. Her writing not only provides a voice for marginalized groups by creating discursive spaces but also employs intimate narratives to probe identity crises and potential reconstructions amid economic turmoil. This creative practice articulates the structural violence in society and reflects profound reflections on contemporary American society and the global political dilemma of identity.
