Chinese tea and wine culture has a long history. In the early stages, tea and wine vessels were not strictly distinguished and were often used interchangeably in daily life. With the development of tea culture, tea utensils were gradually separated from wine and dining vessels, forming a specialized system. The Hongzhou Kiln, renowned as one of the Tang Dynasty's six famous celadon kilns, played a pivotal role in this transformation. It marked the progression of celadon tea wares from multipurpose use to tea-specific during the Tang Dynasty. The tea wares from Hongzhou Kiln were not only practical but also showcased exquisite artistry in the forms, glaze colors, and decorative methods. The shift towards specialized tea utensils is a testament to the burgeoning tea culture and reflects shifts in aesthetic preferences and the practices of tea consumption over time. The evolution of these vessels is not merely a functional change in objects but also the miniature reflection of cultural development of tea and wine, highlighting the profound affection and unique perspective the Chinese hold towards the tea and wine traditions.
