Yang Wanli's fondness for tea was influenced by the widespread tea culture in the Song Dynasty, his upright and clean character, the social custom of making friends through tea, his cultural roots in a tea-producing region, and his life experience as a tea official. His tea poems described tea events and tea customs, and expressed the joy of tea-drinking. These poems are rich in tea culture, full of profound Zen insights, featured by lively and versatile language, the nuances beyond the immediate taste, sharing artistic similarities with the works of his predecessors, and possessing unique artistic individuality. Yang Wanli's tea poems stand out among those of his time, vividly portraying the diverse and colorful tea-drinking life of Song Dynasty scholars.
