摘 要:作为重要的补充文本《,嘉莉妹妹》手稿对深入理解德莱塞的道德哲学起着关键作用,这一点在国内德莱塞研究中尚未获得充分重视。手稿中对非道德行为的关注以及对陷入道德困境的人物心理的深入描写,均为理解德莱塞道德观提供了重要切入点。通过将手稿版本、现存版本的《嘉莉妹妹》与德莱塞的非文学作品进行交互阅读,可以发现德莱塞“无关道德”的创作伦理。文本版次的更迭和德莱塞创作的接受过程,也反映了19、20世纪之交美国文学创作范式的转型。以德莱塞为代表的自然主义作家为书写真实而采取的非传统伦理立场,与文学创作求真的内核不谋而合。The manuscript of Sister Carrie, as an essential supplementary text, holds critical significance for a deeper understanding of Dreiser's moral philosophy—a perspective that has received insufficient attention in domestic Dreiser studies. The manuscript's focus on immoral behavior and its intricate depiction of characters grappling with moral dilemmas provide valuable entry points for exploring Dreiser's ethical stance. By engaging in an interactive reading of the manuscript, the published versions of Sister Carrie, and Dreiser's non-fictional writings, his “amoral” creative ethic comes to light. Moreover, the textual evolution of Sister Carrie and the reception of Dreiser's works reflect a paradigm shift in American literary creation at the turn of the 20th century. Representing naturalist writers,Dreiser's pursuit of truth through unconventional ethical positions aligns with the essence of authenticity in literary creation.
