The study investigates the formation mechanism of university students'willingness to cross social boundaries in online interactions using the Stimulus-Organism-Response(S-O-R)model.Integrating information ecology theory, the study analyzes how stimuli such as information narrowing, information overload,boundary-centric subcultures, personalized recommendations, and information literacy influence cross-boundary willingness and subsequent behaviors.Hypotheses were proposed and validated through structural equation modeling(SEM).Results indicate that the negative impact of information narrowing on cross-boundary willingness is not statistically significant, while boundary-centric subcultures exert a negative influence on cross-boundary willingness. In contrast, information overload, personalized recommendations, and information literacy positively affect cross-boundary willingness.Furthermore,cross-boundary willingness significantly drives cross-boundary behaviors. These findings provide theoretical and practical pathways to mitigate information cocoons and foster cross-boundary social engagement among students, offering empirical support for innovating ideological and political education in higher education institutions.
