摘　　要：《德伯家的苔丝》是英国著名批判现实主义作家哈代的代表作。哈代把自己的一部分最好的小说称为“性格和环境的小说”,《德伯家的苔丝》鲜明地体现了哈代的艺术风格,小说以人的美好性格和高尚的情操终于被卑污残忍的社会环境毁灭这个不可调和的悲剧冲突为基本主题,反映了“维多利亚盛世”的英国现实。苔丝纯朴善良,对生活有关好而朦胧的渴望,却连遭磨难,而这些灾变都不是她偶然的际遇,注定苔丝悲惨命运的是19世纪末英国罪恶的法律、宗教、道德、社会习俗。Tess of the D' Urbervilles is the most famous novel of Hardy. In the novel Hardy created Tess as a fragment of the natural world. She is purely and naturally a woman, desiring understanding and satisfaction, meeting male violation of her body and mind, and coping with it, barely, so painful is it. Hardy described Tess as an example of the destructive effect of society's pressures and conventions upon a nature naturally pure and unstined. In the view of critical realism he exposed the reality of capitalist system in England at Victorian ages.
