摘　　要：多媒体应用需求的增长使得MPEG标准的发展已超越了过去单一视听媒体编码的范畴 根据音频信息的应用特点分析了MPEG音频标准 ,从特征表示、内容描述到互操作应用框架形成的技术发展过程 ,介绍了不同阶段制定的MPEG音频标准的主要技术和应用特点 ,并说明在新应用需求和新目标出现的同时 ,更高效的编码方法和更精确的描述手段仍然是当前考虑的重点The increasing requirements of multimedia applications caused MPEG series to go far beyond a kind of A/V codec technique The development of MPEG audio standard is analyzed based on the point of view of layered information application This process can be divided into three main procedures: feature representation, content description and interoperability Although there are more and more new requirements and new aims coming from the practical applications, researchers can also find that in a foreseeable future, many attentions should still be concentrated on improving the efficiency of audio coding and on mining more precise content based description methods Possible problems of existing standards are pointed out and a brief description of the perspectives of MPEG audio is also presented
