Objective To explore the relationship between non fatal occupational injuries and occupational safety knowledge levels among seafarers in Shanghai. Methods 475 seafarers were randomly selected in Shanghai, and a retrospective epidemiological study on their latest working navigation was conducted. Results The prevalence rate of injury in one part of body among seafarers was significantly higher than that in multiple parts of body ( P <0 05).The average serious rate of injury in one part of body was significantly lower than that in multiple parts of body ( P <0 05).The injury rate in seafarers who knew the person responsible for occupational safety and described good occupational safety on board was significantly lower than that of those who didn′t know and who described fair and bad occupational safety, respectively( P <0 05).Seafarers who were exposed to chemicals and didn′t use safety equipment to protect themselves had higher injury rates than those who were not exposed and use safety equipment ( P <0 05). Conclusions Non fatal occupational injuries were related to occupational safety knowledge levels among seafarers in Shanghai. It is necessary to improve their occupational safety knowledge levels
