摘　　要：为了纪念美国近现代景观园林的先驱———安德鲁·杰克逊·唐宁(Andrew Jackson Downing)逝世150周年,对唐宁的生平与工作、景观设计理论、景观园林设计实践和历史地位及影响作了介绍。唐宁在19世纪中叶为美国创造了景观园林艺术,成为简洁、自然、永恒的自然主义风格流派的伟大代表,对美国社会生活的许多方面都带来了深远的影响,被誉为美国景观园林的鼻祖。Mr.Andrew Jackson Downing was the first great American landscape gardener and actually created American landscape gardening and influenced country life in every aspect.He took for the simple,natural,and permanent styles and was the first great American exponent of the English or natural school of landscape gardening as opposed to the Italian,Dutch and French artificial schools.He is usually considered the greatest single figure in the history of American horticulture.As the150th anniversary of Downing' s death is approaching,now it is an appropriate time to review Dawning' s work.
