摘　　要：对美国国会图书馆正在研制的一种元数据格式MODS(元数据对象描述模式 )的语义和句法特点作了详细的阐述 ,并将其与传统MARC格式作了比较 。This paper analyzes the characteristics in semantic and syntax of MODS, which is a kind of new metadata format developed by Library of Congress. Then it compares MODS with MARC to make deference to the cataloging work of digital library in China.
