试论《红字》中奇林沃思与珠儿的形象起源

摘　　要：在无数评论家的笔下 ,《红字》中的罗杰·奇林沃思是个地地道道的恶魔角色 ,他面貌丑陋、身体畸形 ,不惜一切代价只为报复与自己妻子通奸的狄梅斯迪尔。不过 ,笔者认为霍桑笔下的这一形象具有双重特性 ,他虽对狄梅斯迪尔实施了较残酷的心理探究式的报复 ,可他对他们通奸所生的私生女却从没有过恶意 ,甚至可以说像父亲一样关爱。奇林沃思这种鬼性与人性合为一体的父亲形象是有其创作根源的 ,本文通过对比霍桑的家族史 ,对此进行了初步的探讨。With his deformity and ugliness, Roger Chillingworth is considered a merciless, devilish avenger upon Dimmesdale, the adulterer in Hawthorn's The Scarlet Letter. However, he has another side worth mentioning, that is, his fatherly kindness towards Pearl, the daughter of the adulteress and the adulterer. This article is intended to discuss his relationship with Pearl, and to dig out what lies behind the two characters through analyzing the similarities of Hawthorne's own family romance and The Scarlet Letter.
