摘　　要：英国历史学家汤因比以《历史研究》而蜚声史坛,亨廷顿则是美国当代政治发展理论权威,两人身为各自学科的智囊,均对文明社会诸问题,特别是对西方文明的前景做了有益的探讨。由于生活的时代与历史背景不同,身份和学术渊源不同,他们研究文明问题的目的、角度及文明观有所差异。Arnold Joseph Toynbee(1889-1975),British historian, achieved his greatest fame for his monumental work,A Study of History.Samuel P.Huntington is one of the most important authorities of the political development theory in US.As the top representatives of their own fields,both of them made a helpful study of problems concerning the civilized society,especially the development of western civilization.Because of their differences in living condition and historical background, and because of their different identifies and academic experiences,their views on civilization are to some extent different.
