New Fossils of a Primitive Man Found at Zhoukoudian

摘  要:A news release announces that the fossilized remains of one or two primitivemen were recently discovered in a cave in the vicinity of the world-renowned site of Peking Man. Thenews was released at a press conference jointly hosted by CAS and Beijing Municipal Government onJuly 7 in Beijing. Scientists believe the discovery will rekindle the public's interest inZhoukoudian, a mountainous village 48 kilometers southwest of downtown Beijing. On December 2, 1929,a young Chinese paleontologist named Peking Wenzhong (1904 - 1982) discovered the first skull ofthe famous Peking Man at Longgushan, or Dragon Bone Hill, a verdant knoll that used to be popularamong local villagers for its rich trove of animal fossils. The discovery is recognized as the firstfeat of worldwide renown in modern science made by contemporary Chinese.
